Abstract

The article analyzes the challenges and prospects for Ukraine in the context of integration into international security structures. In particular, it examines aspects of the geopolitical situation, the influence of foreign policy, as well as the role of Ukraine in global security initiatives. Special attention is paid to the processes of adapting the national defense strategy to the standards of international organizations, such as NATO and the European Union. It is noted that the integration of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe into NATO and the EU took place after significant political, economic and military reforms. These countries, which became members of both organizations after the end of the Cold War, have common features in the process of adapting to security and democracy standards. The article analyzes such countries as Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Baltic countries, which, being part of the Warsaw Pact, carried out significant reforms after the fall of the USSR, which allowed them to join NATO in 1999 and the EU in 2004. These countries have significantly increased their defense spending, modernized their armed forces, and carried out political and economic reforms, which allowed them to successfully integrate into Western security structures. The article emphasizes that Ukraine’s integration into international security structures, in particular NATO and the EU, has a number of differences compared to other countries that joined these organizations. The biggest difference lies in the geopolitical situation and security threats that Ukraine faces. Since Ukraine found itself in a state of war, which forced it to reconsider its strategic priorities. This situation complicates Ukraine’s integration into NATO and the EU, as Russia actively opposes the expansion of the Alliance and the EU to the east, creating additional political and security risks for Ukraine. The author emphasizes the importance of developing cooperation with international partners to ensure stability in the region and overcome existing threats to national security. The article also highlights future opportunities for Ukraine in the context of its participation in global security initiatives, and identifies key areas for strengthening international cooperation in the defense sector.
