GENDER COMPETENCE IN THE CONTEXT OF PROFESSIONAL TRAINING OF А POLICE OFFICER

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of gender competence as a necessary component of the professional training of a police officer. It is argued that the principles of tolerance, gender equality are basic for the professional training of a police officer, since the National Police of Ukraine is the central executive body that serves society by ensuring the protection of rights and freedoms, maintaining public safety and order, and combating crime. A police officer must be tolerant of different social groups, avoid discrimination, and ensure equality before the law for all categories of people.The following are considered aberrations of modern gender discourse and gender education: the presence of feminine and masculine patterns, a certain idea of female and male roles, which results in gender stereotypes that limit the development of the individual; the treatment of gender equality exclusively as a women’s issue, the identification of gender and feminist discourse, the almost absence of the problem of discrimination and protection of men’s rights in scientific research; division of professions into «female» and «male», promotion of masculinization of women who build a career in the «male» sector; interpretation of gender equality as a mandatory feature of women’s professional self-realization.It is argued that a comprehensive gender approach in education should be based on: a gender-sensitive program of training and education aimed at overcoming gender stereotypes and discrimination; expansion of gender discourse, inclusion of the issue of anti-discrimination of all sexes and genders; development of special courses on gender topics, conducting trainings on gender equality, inclusion in curricula and programs of blocks on managing gender conflicts and combating gender discrimination; development and implementation of interactive teaching methods taking into account a gender-sensitive environment; development of gender culture of management and scientific and pedagogical staff.
