RESPECT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS IN THE ACTIVITIES OF THE NATIONAL POLICE OF UKRAINE

The article analyzes the issue of respecting human rights and freedoms in the activities of the National Police of Ukraine. The legal principles of the functioning of the police in the field of human rights are revealed, and the mechanisms for protecting citizens’ rights during police intervention are described. Particular attention is paid to the role of the Custody Records system as a tool for ensuring transparency, recording actions regarding detained persons, and preventing human rights violations. The need for further improvement of the regulatory framework, professional training of police officers, and strengthening public control over law enforcement activities in order to increase public trust in the police is substantiated. It is argued that ensuring human rights and freedoms in the activities of the National Police of Ukraine is the foundation for establishing legality, justice, and maintaining law and order. In the context of the country’s democratic development, the implementation of mechanisms that minimize the risks of violations of citizens’ rights during their interaction with the police, especially in situations of detention and stay in police institutions, is of particular importance. The use of the Custody Records system, which provides detailed registration of all actions regarding detained persons in real time, comes to the fore. This solution contributes to the transparency of police work, prevents cases of ill-treatment, torture or illegal detention, and also increases the level of citizens’ trust in law enforcement agencies. The integration of modern monitoring tools, such as Custody Records, the development of a legal culture among police officers and increased control over compliance with legal norms in daily work are critically important for the effective implementation of the principles of human rights protection. These measures form the basis for building a legal state, strengthening democratic values and increasing the level of mutual trust between society and law enforcement agencies.
