THE EVOLUTION OF GENDER IN THE MECHANISMS FOR IMPLEMENTING EQUALITY RIGHTS

Abstract

The article analyses the essence and evolution of the term ‘gender’, analyses the factors that infl uence the formation of values and stereotypes and their interaction with social structures and cultural traditions. The article analyses the legislative framework of Ukraine on gender equality and the implementation of issues in Ukrainian society in accordance with the consciousness of other countries that have already implemented eff ective mechanisms for ensuring gender equality. The article attempts to provide a scientifi c interpretation and observation of the peculiarities of ensuring gender equality of rights and freedoms of women and men in Ukraine, and identifi es possible factors for improvement. The author argues that the study of gender approaches should begin with the theory of social construction of gender, which is based on the biological status and social category of gender. In this regard, it is not possible to give a defi nitive answer to the question whether the concept of gender is the development of the ideal potentials of the so-called ‘cultural sex’ or whether gender only fi nally forms the naturally occurring sex and age characteristics of a person. It should be noted that the concepts of sexual and gender identity are subject to the dialectic of the personal and the general: general identity does not provide any value-normative content, while gender identity in its generality creates age-related peculiarities as one of its objects and as one of the elements of its system of infl uence. It can be argued that gender equality is gaining additional importance as a condition for the modernization of society and the success of transformations and changes.The article concludes that gender and gender equality in Ukraine will be used not only as terms, but also as a norm of social life, respect and consideration of mutual interests. Formulas for an equal approach should take into account the differences between women and men, because otherwise they will not have an accurate result.
